Rookies do the sideups with no weight. Watch the link to see the progressions on this move.
Sideups are meant to be a big movement. Tap your hips to the floor then get them as high as you can in the air.
Mountain climbers are also supposed to be a big movement. No tippy toe tapping foot work here. Watch the video to see what I mean.
