Perform 8 rounds of 20 seconds work followed immediately by 10 seconds rest for each of the following exercises. Complete all 8 rounds before moving to the next exercise.
Perform 2 rounds of:
KB swings 35/54
plate switches
crunches
Aussie pullups
DB OH press (strict) 15/20 ea.
Post Rx, or total Tabatas missed to comments.
Workout Notes:
- You may do this workout in any order that makes sense to you. Do it in rounds, do each exercise back to back - whatever!
- Careful on the second round of Aussies. Maybe turn it into a DB alt biceps curl, if you know you are prone to swollen arms.
- For some extra fun, do the crunches on a ball. Elevate feet to take that up a notch.
- Generally, we suggest a 4 inch plate for the switches. Want to take it up a notch? Do 2 plates.
We are opening a new GPP Kid's class!
Very few things are more inspiring to me than watching kids workout - with real programming. Problem is, kid's fitness programming is still based on teaching children the rudiments & fundamentals of sports. 50 years ago this was of utmost importance due to the fact that kids were, by and large, sufficiently active. Nowadays kids are mostly just (I'll ignore the obvious joke - because it's not really funny) - not.
Dear parents, community leaders, school administrators and P.E. teachers: Of what use is teaching children the rudiments and fundamentals of sport if they are wholly lacking in the physical ability to perform these sports at even a MOST BASIC levels?
I'll answer this - IT IS OF NO PARTICULAR USE!
Another question: how do sports like ping pong, badminton and kick-ball factor into our children's health?
I'll answer it - IT REALLY DOESN'T AFFECT THEIR HEALTH IN ANY MEANINGFUL WAY!
So why are we still doing this? Again I'll answer: It's because we are bogged down in bureaucracy & tradition. Due to budget constraints, most public schools are looking for ways of reducing P.E. curriculum - NOT EXPAND it to better suit our children's needs. It takes far less money to do what has always been done in our P.E. classes (tradition). And HELL it worked for all of us as kids, right?
Things need to change. Kids need comprehensive, active PROGRAMMING to affect the life changes you and I would like to see in the physical health of our children.
GPP is leading the charge to change. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am we are doing summer kids classes again! These classes are geared to help our kids balance an active, healthy lifestyle. Each 45 min session includes a warm-up, exercise instruction, a workout including the skills they just learned, and (if there is time left over) an active game.
Tuesday and Thursday classes have already begun and are sold out, but we are opening a Monday & Wednesday 10:30 am class. These begin June 29. When our Tu-Th classes filled up, we turned a lot of folks away. If you know any of them, please let them know we are making these additions. Thx.
2nd day of GPP Kid's Summer Camp! Inspiring, no?
